Goodluck sa mga altetang Pilipino sa 2008 Beijing Olympics: Mark Javier (archery); Henry Dagmil at Marestella Torres (long jump); Henry Tañamor (boxing); Miguel Molina, James Walsh, Ryan Arabejo, Daniel Coakley at Christel Simms (swimming); Rexel Ryan Fabriga at Sheila Mae Perez (diving); Tshomlee Go at Mary Antoinette Rivero (taekwondo); Eric Ang (trap shooting); at Hidilyn Diaz (weightlifting).

Simula ng jumoin ang kauna-unahang Pilipinong Olympian na si David Nepomuceno 1924 sa Paris, hindi pa nakakasungkit ng gold medal ang mga atletang Pilipino. Bagamat maipagmamayabang ng bansa ang karangalan bilang kauna-unahang [nasyon] delegado mula sa Southeast Asia na nakakuha ng Olympic medal bronze sa Swimming (200m breaststroke Men) ni Teofilo Yldefonso sa 1928 Amsterdam Games.

Pinaka-successful ang Pilipinas sa Boxing na may limang medalya, 2 dito ay silver ni Anthony Villanueva sa 1964 Tokyo Games at Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco sa 1996 Altlanta Games, at 5 ay bronze. Sa 1932 Los Angeles Games pinakamaraming napanalunang medalya ng Pilipinas — 3 bronze ni Simeon Toribio (Men’s high jump-Athletics), Jose Villanueva (Men’s bantamweight-Boxing) , at Teofilo Yldefonso (Men’s 200 m breaststroke-Swimming).

The Tripoli Agreement

In the Name of God, the Omnipotent, the Merciful.

Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and Moro National Liberation Front with the Participation of the Quadripartite Ministerial Commission Members of the Islamic Conference and the Secretary General of the organization of Islamic Conference.

In accordance with the Resolution No. 4 Para. 5 adopted by the Council of Ministers of the Islamic conference in its Fourth Session held in Benghazi, Libyan Arab Republic during the month of Safar 1393 H. corresponding to March 1973, calling for the formation of Quadripartite Ministerial Commission representing the Libyan Arab Republic, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of Somalia, to enter into discussions with the Government of the Republic of the Philippines concerning the situation of the Muslims in the South of the Philippines.

Sa latest ranking ng New 7 Wonders of Nature Nominees, pasok pa rin sa top 12 ang apat na pambato ng Pilipinas. Nasa #2 pa rin ang Tubbataha Reef samantalang umangat ng isang pwesto kumpara nung isang araw ang #3 Chocolate Hills, #5 Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, at #9 Mayon Volcano. Para maging eligible ang isang nominee sa pipiliing 21 finalist ng isang panel ng mga eksperto, kailangang makapasok sya sa top 77 pagdating ng December 31, 2008.

Beautiful Boxer sa 24th SEA Games

Tulad ng bida sa pelikulang Beautiful Boxer, magandang lalaki pa ring bumaba sa ring si Godfrey Castro ng Philippine Boxing Team matapos magretire sa flyweight bout kontra kay Thailander Somjit Jongjohor nung Thursday sa ginaganap na 24th SEA GAMES sa Korat, Thailand. Iyon ay bilang protesta sa unfair na pagjujudge sa ginanap na Women's Boxing finals kung saan natalo ang mga boksingera ng Pilipinas, maliban sa isa, laban sa mga pambato ng host country.

Lima pang kabaro ang sumunod sa yapak ni Castro na ikinashock ng mga manonood. Tanging si Larry Semillano lang ang lalaking humarap subalit expected na napaluhod sa Olympic champion at Asian Games gold medallist na si Manus Boonjamnong sa puntos na 10-4 sa light-welter bout.
